Port Forwarding

 

With port forwarding, you can make one or more ports of a cloud desktop accessible to your local network here in China or the internet. This is commonly paired with the Remote Desktop Protocol. 

You can use this feature on DaDesktop Course machines (which need a private server), as well as DaDesktop For Work or Standalone machines. Keep in mind that the interface might look a bit different depending on the machine type.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Choose 'Advanced' then 'Port Forwarding',

Port forwarding can be set up with either automatic or manual allocation. Automatic allocation picks the next free port on the server, which is generally the simpler and preferred way. Manual allocation lets you hand‑pick each external port in the range 10000–65500 when needed. If you’ve already added manual port forwards, they’ll be saved and can be updated later.

The screenshot below shows auto allocation, along with a previously added manual port forward using host port 11122 mapped to port 22 on the VM.

In this example, port 11122 is used for both TCP and UDP forwarding to the cloud desktop’s VM port 22—typically for SSH. You can set TCP and UDP ports to different values if required.

Example for Windows RDP

This example uses the manual allocation method, though you can of course use automatic allocation as well.

1. Find your DaDesktop desktop, click Port forwarding, and set your TCP ports for the remote connection. This is your external port number mapped to 3389 (for example, 66666:3389). Remember your port number; if you ever forget it, just go back to Port forwarding and check.

2. Submit the changes, create a password inside your Windows DD machine, and then click 'Enable Remote Desktop'.

3. On your Windows device, launch Remote Desktop and enter the server name followed by the TCP port. For instance, if the server is zh4cn, you would use zh4cn.npg.io:xxxxx. In 'Show options', you can also pick the resolution of the remote desktop window.

3.1 To log into your DaDesktop remote desktop, you’ll normally need to reset your username and password directly on the machine first.

Then connect to the remote desktop.

 

4. Once connected, you’ll have a remote desktop running on the DD template with your own device’s sound card. You can also copy, paste, or transfer documents with ease. (The small window on the left shows a DD remote desktop with audio.)
