Physical PC Farm (Bare Metal)

Beyond cloud-based offerings, DaDesktop also gives you direct access to physical desktops and servers—true bare metal machines.

This setup assigns a dedicated physical machine to each participant and has proven effective in situations where learners require:

  1. complete server hardware without any virtualization—often needed for performance optimizations or licensing requirements (such as with ONAP or OpenStack)
  2. hardware components that cannot be emulated, like certain GPUs, Mellanox network adapters (especially when firmware modifications are part of the training), other networking gear, etc.

Additionally, this approach can be adopted in an existing physical classroom here in China with only minor adjustments, letting the instructor set up the training environment remotely.

The same cloud desktop image that runs in the cloud can be seamlessly deployed onto each participant's own physical machine.

Onsite Installation Requirements

To use this on location, you'll need to buy dedicated hardware control cables—referred to as ddnexus—priced at roughly 100 USD per desktop.

Give it a spin by choosing Metal PC when you set up a Standalone or Fresh-start desktop.
