Cannot type characters like apostrophes, quotation marks, or inverted commas on DaDesktop machine

This irritating quirk shows up only occasionally, and whether it happens depends on your physical keyboard, language settings, and how internationalisation is configured.

This only affects Windows

You can sort it out by doing the following:

  1. Type Settings in the Windows search bar
  2. Select Time & Language
  3. Pick the language option from the left-hand menu
  4. Under Preferred Languages, choose your language and then hit Options.
  5. Next, click Add a keyboard and pick the layout that matches your keyboard, for example US.
  6. Remove the old keyboard layouts by clicking each one and selecting Remove.
  7. Give it a test – type a single quote ( ' ), a double quote ( " ), and a backtick ( ` ) to make sure they work.
